Hedge Fund Genius Bets on mRNA

One of my all-time favorite hedge fund managers is Seth Klarman. He runs a fund called Baupost and is arguably one of the best investors in our generation. Since the early ’80s, he has averaged more than 16% annual returns.

Think about that for a second…

That means he has doubled his clients’ money every 4 1/2 years! And he’s a value investor to boot!

Klarman looks for opportunity in any sector. That’s what I like about his style. It matches mine. I am agnostic when it comes to investing, as is my trading partner, Bryan Bottarelli. We look for opportunity. Period.

That’s why Klarman’s investment a few months ago in Translate Bio (Nasdaq: TBIO) caught my attention. He invested more than $11 million in the company, boosting his stake to more than 28%, paying $22 for the last chunk purchased in July.

Why Translate Bio?

Translate Bio is a therapeutics company developing medicines to treat diseases caused by protein or gene dysfunction. The company uses the same messenger RNA (mRNA) technology that Moderna and Pfizer used to develop the COVID-19 vaccine that has shown over 90% efficacy.

Using its proprietary mRNA therapeutic platform (MRT), the company creates mRNA that encodes functional proteins. The mRNA is delivered to the target cell, where the cell’s own machinery recognizes it and translates it, restoring or augmenting protein function to treat or prevent disease.

With Translate Bio’s promising technology on the front lines and headlines everywhere of our battle with COVID-19, I can see why Klarman is interested in this lesser-known company. Translate Bio also recently signed an agreement with pharma giant Sanofi (Nasdaq: SNY) to develop vaccines.

Action Plan: War Room members jumped on board using a unique strategy that allows them to pay less than Klarman did.

That’s a bet I want to make!

And it’s one that you should make as well at current levels. Join me in The War Room so you can jump in the same trades that the best in the business make… but at better prices!
