Chinook Therapeutics (Nasdaq: KDNY)

Chinook Therapeutics is up 65.90% premarket after agreeing to be acquired by Novartis for $40 per share in cash. Under the agreement, Novartis will acquire Chinook for $3.2 billion, offering $40 per share in cash. This represents a significant premium of 83 percent to Chinook’s 60-day volume-weighted average stock price and 67 percent to its closing price on June 9, 2023. In addition to the cash payment, Chinook shareholders will receive contingent value rights (CVRs) that could provide an additional $4 per share upon the accomplishment of specific regulatory milestones related to Chinook’s primary product candidate, atrasentan. The total consideration, including the CVRs, could amount to approximately $3.5 billion.

Sector to watch: Artificial Intelligence

With Nvidia’s blowout guidance in May, it’s showing the AI trend is translating into real revenue and profits for well-positioned companies. Right now Advanced Micro Devices is looking to challenge Nvidia’s dominance, and tomorrow the company will hold its AI Technology and Data Center presentation, where it’s expected to reveal its AI platform strategy. The stock was up 2.85% in premarket trading.
