I am a huge proponent of fixed income right now.

But while your bank is offering you 0.25% – or more, if you can grab one of the online banks – you’re missing the speedboat and settling for a dinghy!

Even those juicy one- and two-year Treasurys paying 4.25% to 4.5% are the wrong place to make real retirement income.

Here’s why.

What are you going to do when the Treasurys come up for renewal in a year or two?

How about those CDs your bank is pitching you so hard right now?

What happens at renewal time?

I’ll tell you what I think will happen. I think that two years from now, that 4% CD or 4.25% Treasury will be paying you a lot less.

It may be as little as 3%!

Then what are you going to do?

You see, a lot of people are really shortsighted when it comes to money decisions.

They’re the guys who take the “special offer” from the phone company and then get locked in for two years at the highest price.

Don’t be that person!

What you need to do now is lock in higher rates for the longer term (five years to 15 years).

The bond market is sending you a message.

Don’t ignore it.

It’s saying that you should disregard the current inflation numbers and focus on where they will be a few years from now. And that number is going to be lower than 8%, 6% or maybe even 4%.

The 10-year Treasury is paying 3.5% and the 30-year is at around 3.7%.

That’s telling you that the market sees way lower rates in the future.

If you’re not paying attention, you may miss out on a generational opportunity, especially if you’re in your 50s, 60s or 70s!
